Am I ready for a new job?

11 Feb 2022

Bad days are guaranteed at work; you may have a large workload or a dreaded meeting coming up – but your job shouldn’t feel like a chore every day.

According to research found by CV-Library, 39.7% of Brits dislike their current job. If you dislike your job, what is the point in staying? It may seem terrifying; the thought of leaving certainty to join uncertainty. However, if you never try you will never know how it feels to be on the other side. On the other hand, you might not even realise it’s time to move on and find a new job. Therefore, here are some signs you’re ready to move on from your current job.

You don’t have a healthy work-life balance in your job

Have you found that you’re living to work and not working to live? The majority of the workforce find themselves working past their finish time occasionally. However, if you find yourself continuously working, starting early and finishing late, it’s time to rethink your workload or find a new job. Overworking can actually decrease productivity and increase daytime fatigue due to not getting enough sleep – this isn’t healthy!

Your CV is outdated

If you were to apply for a new role tomorrow, have you gained any new skills or experiences in the last year? You should be updating your CV regularly to keep up to date with your current skills and to see how you have improved over time. If you can’t add any new skills or experience to your CV, it’s likely your progress has stopped, and you’re not being challenged enough in your role.

The commute to your job is too much

Did you know the average UK worker will spend 400 days of their life commuting to work? Thanks to the Pandemic, a lot more companies are now offering their employees the opportunity to work from home. A 20-second walk from your bed to your desk sounds a lot more appealing than the hour’s drive or train journey to the office. Not to mention the costs of getting to and from work – UK workers are spending as much as £544 a month to commute, along with other work-related costs. Why not consider searching for that new role that allows hybrid working?

You’re too comfortable in your job

In a new job, you’re more likely to put forward new ideas to improve the company to impress your boss. However, if you’re comfortable, you’re likely to be sitting back and letting others take control. Feeling too comfortable also shows that you find your job too easy, which can make it boring, making you disengaged. A study by Gallup found that 26% of UK employees are actively disengaged with their jobs. Engaged employees are more likely to be healthier but also less likely to suffer from chronic disease. Why not find a new role that challenges you?
